Deploying an Application
WebClient provides great flexibility for deploying and updating your application across the Web or a company intranet or extranet. Deployment of an application requires generating the necessary files used to install, run, and update an application, configuring your distributed environment, and placing files on the appropriate server for delivery to end user machines. To perform these tasks you use the WebClient Application Assembler, an OpenEdge PRO*Tool that is part of your OpenEdge development environment.
In many cases it is necessary to modify a deployment configuration after the files are generated. For example, individual customers often have specific configuration requirements for security, server locations, and other details that are unknown at development time. The WebClient Deployment Packager, another PRO*Tool, provides a simple and convenient way to create a custom deployment configuration without regenerating the application.
This chapter explains how to use the WebClient Application Assembler and the WebClient Deployment Packager. It also discusses considerations for deploying application files on servers, installing WebClient, and installing and updating your application. It contains the following sections:
